Job Summary
The Tax Specialist will report to the Tax Senior Manager and provide critical support to the Marriott Vacations Worldwide (MVW) indirect tax function. Key responsibilities include:
• Preparing sales, use, occupancy, property, and lodging tax workpapers and reconciliations
• Reviewing work for accuracy and ensuring compliance with internal control processes and tax team deadlines.
• Completing general ledger journal entry postings and maintaining organized files
• Supporting the timely and accurate filing of MVW’s state and local tax returns, including sales and use, property, lodging, and federal information reporting requirements across all locations where MVW operates
Additionally, the Tax Specialist will handle other related duties and projects as assigned.
Location
This position has a hybrid schedule that will be available once the training period is complete (approximately 3 months).
Expected Contributions
• Prepare tax workpapers to support the filing of state and local sales, use, and occupancy tax returns.
• Prepare, review, and post journal entries for tax payments and recorded transactions.
• Obtain, review, and validate asset data necessary for filing personal property tax returns across various jurisdictions.
• Establish, prepare, and coordinate property tax payment requests for approved bills, ensuring timely processing, tracking, and proper documentation.
• Receive, research, and respond to property tax-related notices, inquiries, and correspondence from internal and external clients.
• Assist with monthly tax account reconciliations in compliance with MVWP-66 Policy, collaborating with local site teams to obtain necessary reconciliations and supporting information.
• Run various General Ledger queries from PeopleSoft, including trial balances, profit and loss statements, and balance sheets.
• Collect, organize, and analyze data in Microsoft Excel for special reports, analytics, and cash flow assessments.
• Execute special projects as needed.
Candidate Profile
Education
• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required
• BS/BA in Accounting preferred
Experience
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Minimum of one year of equivalent work experience
• Experience with PeopleSoft software preferred
