JOB SUMMARY

Provides advanced paralegal and legal operations support to attorneys and stakeholders, exercising independent judgment in handling complex matters, projects, and cross‑functional initiatives. Performs sophisticated legal research, drafts and reviews complex legal documents, manages multi‑jurisdictional workflows, and supports attorneys in achieving strategic business objectives with moderate complexity and risk.

  • Acts as a key legal support professional and subject matter resource within the Law Department.
  • Independently manages complex and non-routine business requests, escalating legal risk issues as appropriate.
  • Responsible for own work and contributing to team, department and/or business results. May direct work of non-management staff. 
  • Exercises sound judgment and discretion in handling matters with moderate legal and business risk
  • Responsible for planning, prioritizing, and managing own workload and may coordinate or guide the work of junior paralegals or administrative staff
  • Contributes meaningfully to department objectives, operational improvements, and process optimization
  • Acts as a knowledge resource for legal procedures, documentation standards, and jurisdiction‑specific requirements
  • Demonstrates an awareness of personal strengths and areas for improvement and acts independently to improve and increase skills and knowledge.
  • Performs other duties as appropriate.

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES

Legal Support

  • Serve as a primary liaison with internal stakeholders across business units to assess legal needs, timelines, and priorities
  • Independently draft, review, and finalize a broad range of complex legal documents (e.g., commercial contracts, development agreements, powers of attorney, regulatory filings, corporate documents)
  • Manage and coordinate multi‑jurisdictional legal matters with external counsel, consultants, and government authorities with minimal supervision
  • Provide legal and commercial context, and summaries to senior counsel on projects, transactions, and ongoing matters
  • Conduct and synthesize advanced legal research and present findings with practical recommendations

Administrative Support

  • Oversee legal matter intake, tracking, and reporting across jurisdictions
  • Design, maintain, and continuously improve document management, filing, and tracking systems
  • Exercise independent judgment in identifying issues requiring escalation, follow‑up, or prioritization
  • Act as a central coordination point between Legal and other departments for high‑value or time‑sensitive matters

Additional Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify and take on the responsibility for research or projects in support of the VP & Senior Counsels and the wider Legal team.
  • Perform all tasks in a timely manner ensuring all deadlines are met.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by management.
  • Demonstrate high level or work ethic and awareness of the importance of confidentiality at all times.
  • Comply with MVW policies and procedures.
  • Be proactive and have a flexible approach to work, meeting the needs of the team and the business at all times.

  • Maintain a working knowledge of all MVW product lines.
  • Maintain computer systems knowledge (Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc)
  • Work with all MVW colleagues as a team, supporting the needs within that team and those of the business at all times.
  • Lead or significantly contribute to departmental projects, compliance initiatives, audits, and process improvement efforts
  • Mentor and provide guidance to legal support staff
  • Ensure consistent application of legal standards, precedents, and templates
  • Demonstrate a high degree of professionalism, discretion, and accountability in handling confidential and privileged information
