Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Global Tax, the Assistant Vice President, Global Tax Transactional and Indirect Taxes provides executive leadership and strategic direction for all transactional and indirect tax matters within MVW, a publicly traded, global, company environment. This role oversees global indirect tax strategy and execution, including sales and use tax, Value Added Tax (VAT), Goods and Services Tax (GST), excise, customs, property, accommodation, liquor, gross receipts, withholding, tourism, and other transactional tax regimes, while ensuring full compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.

The role plays a critical role in supporting the company’s financial reporting obligations, including alignment with ASC 740, coordination with external auditors, and contribution to accurate and timely tax disclosures in SEC filings. Partners closely with Corporate Tax, Controllership, Legal, Treasury, and business leaders to assess tax implications of mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, supply chain initiatives, and significant commercial transactions, balancing risk management with value creation.

As a key member of the Global Tax Lead Team, the Assistant Vice President is responsible for maintaining strong SOX-compliant controls, audit readiness, and governance over indirect and transactional tax processes. The role also serves as a trusted advisor to senior leaders on emerging tax legislation, regulatory developments, and controversy matters, while leading, developing, and scaling a high-performing tax organization and managing relationships with external advisors and tax authorities.

Specific Expected Contributions

  • Strategic Leadership - Provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all transactional and indirect tax activities, including sales and use tax, VAT/GST, excise, customs, and other indirect tax regimes across the MVW Enterprise in the U.S. and non-U.S. regions. Communicates complex tax matters clearly to senior finance leadership and business executives, providing actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Governance - Establishes and maintains a strong public‑company governance framework, including SOX‑compliant controls, documentation, and audit readiness for indirect and transactional tax processes.
  • Tax Planning - Leads indirect and transactional tax aspects of mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, restructurings, and major commercial transactions, including due diligence, structuring, integration, and post‑transaction compliance.
  • Compliance - Partners closely with MVW’s Global Tax team, MVW’s Controllership, Legal, FP&A, Treasury, and business leaders to support accurate and timely ASC 740 provisions, SEC filings, and quarterly and annual close processes.
  • Risk Management - Identifies, assesses, and communicates tax risks, exposures, and earnings impacts to senior leaders with clear recommendations and mitigation strategies.
  • Transformation – Leads strategic initiatives to centralize all global indirect tax filings across all regions within MVW. Drives process improvement, standardization, and appropriate use of technology and automation to enhance compliance accuracy, scalability, and efficiency.
  • Outside Service Firm and Tax Authority Management - Oversees indirect tax audits, controversies, and disputes; manages relationships with tax authorities and external advisors to resolve matters efficiently and to minimize financial and reputational risk.
  • Regulatory Monitoring - Monitors and interprets legislative and regulatory developments, ensuring timely assessment of business impact and proactive implementation of required changes.
  • Talent Management - As a member of the Global Tax Lead Team, creates a climate that fosters individual professional development and establishes an operational framework to meet or exceed expectations for team performance. Builds, leads, coaches, and develops a high‑performing transactional and indirect tax tax professionals, including conducting talent assessments, succession planning, and capability development. Sets high performance standards, measures and manages performance consistent with MVW’s company values. Fosters a strong control mindset and culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Candidate Profile  

Education 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree in Tax (MST), Accounting, MBA, Juris Doctorate, or a related discipline preferred.
  • CPA, BAR member or equivalent preferred.

Experience

  • At least 10 years of progressive tax experience with leadership responsibility at the Director level in indirect and transactional tax within a public, medium multi-national company.
  • At least five years in a supervisory role with demonstrated success leading and developing a functional team in a complex, service-intensive, and deadline-driven environment.
  • Deep technical expertise in indirect and transactional tax regimes, including demonstrated experience supporting complex transactions and cross‑border operations.
  • Experience partnering closely with Controllership, Legal, and business stakeholders; prior exposure to Audit Committee or executive leadership interactions is a plus.
  • Experience operating in a public‑company environment, including SOX controls, external audits, and collaboration on SEC reporting and ASC 740 matters.
  • Experience building or transforming tax functions, including organizational design, process optimization, and systems or data enhancements.
  • Experience in a matrix corporate structured organization preferred.
  • Experience in Hotel Management, Vacation Ownership, Hospitality preferred.
  • Experience coordinating and directing multiple resources, both internal resources and external vendors, to accomplish tasks.
